Does your home have cold floors, uneven temperatures, and drafts? Do your energy bills seem higher than they should be? If so, you need a home energy audit!
What Is an Energy Audit?
An energy audit, also called an energy assessment, is a comprehensive evaluation of your home’s energy efficiency. It helps you understand how your home uses energy, where it’s being wasted, and what you can do to improve energy efficiency. If you’re dealing with comfort issues, high energy bills, or poor indoor air quality, an energy audit is the first step toward finding a solution.

What to Expect During a Home Energy Audit
Our energy assessment takes one to one and a half hours and is the first step to cutting your home energy use. We will need access to the attic, basement, HVAC equipment, ductwork, and water heater to complete the assessment. Our comprehensive home energy audit includes:
Blower Door Test
We use blower door testing to measure air leakage and find out where your home needs better air sealing.
Infrared Imaging
We use infrared cameras to see where there are gaps in your insulation that allow heat to escape and drive up your bill.s
Combustion Safety Test
We test all combustion appliances including your furnace and water heater to ensure they’re venting properly. This helps prevent carbon monoxide leaks and makes your home a safer, healthier place to live.
Report & Recommendations
At the end of the audit, we’ll provide a detailed report that includes our findings and the energy-saving solutions we recommend. We can also provide a Home Energy Score, which measures your home’s energy efficiency on a scale of 1-10. This rating system was designed by the US Department of Energy and is meant to act like a “miles-per-gallon” rating for your house. After we insulate and air seal a home, we then test again to track our progress and ensure that we’ve achieved excellent results.
Benefits of a Home Energy Audit
Many Milwaukee area homes have insufficient insulation, gaps or cracks in the home exterior, and improperly vented exhaust fans. These scenarios create home comfort issues, high energy bills, poor indoor air quality, and even long-term maintenance issues. Our home energy audit identifies these trouble areas so you can solve the problems you’re experiencing at the source. For example, if ice dams are forming on the roof and causing water damage to the interior, we find solutions to stop ice dams from forming in the future instead of merely making roof repairs to slow down future leaks.
If you make the improvements recommended during your home energy audit, you can expect benefits like:
- Better energy efficiency
- Lower energy bills
- A more comfortable home
- Less risk of ice dams
- Healthier indoor air quality
