What Is the Lead Hazard Reduction Program? 

The Lead Hazard Reduction Program was created by the City of Milwaukee Health Department to help local homeowners and renters pay for lead abatement services. Through the program, eligible property owners can receive up to $40,000 in grant funding to replace original windows that have lead-based paint. 

Who’s Eligible for the Program? 

To qualify for the lead paint removal program in Milwaukee, you must live in Milwaukee and meet the following requirements: 

• Your home was built before 1978 
• A pregnant person, a woman of childbearing age (15-45), or a child under age 6 must live in or spend a significant amount of time in your home
• You must be either current on your property taxes or on a payment plan 
• You must have homeowners' insurance during the lead abatement process 
• You must have no open building code violations 
• You must be present for an inspection with a lead inspector
